The lawsuit by the police union brings a distinctive voice to the charged debate over how the city has monitored political protest since Sept. 11. The off-duty officers faced a "constant threat of arrest," Officer Liddy testified, all but echoing the complaint by activists for other causes that the city has effectively "criminalized dissent."

That is too sweet, I can't believe the comments that are made to reporters by these cops. Well, at least Bad Faith is objectified and hopefully now overcome. I would imagine that the context of 'unionized' cop vs. 'uniformed' cop makes a different to self-consciousness and why 1st amendment restrictions didn't arise in consciousness during the Transit Strike.
