"Karl Rove, Deputy White House Chief of Staff and special adviser to President George W. Bush, has recently been providing information to special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in the ongoing CIA leak investigation, sources close to the investigation say.
According to several Pentagon sources close to Rove and others familiar with the inquiry, Bush's senior adviser tipped off Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald to information that led to the recent 'discovery' of 250 pages of missing email from the office of Vice President Dick Cheney."

you know, this is one relationship I have no idea about- what is the status between Rove and Cheney?
This fits with festum's theory that Cheney is done after the midterm elections. The investigation will take that long, as evidenced by the magical appearance of the 'missing' emails. Libby and Rove finger Cheney on their own time schedule. He takes the fall for the Plame leak, gets pardoned by Bush (that is if there is any jail time involved, which is doubtful), and retires to some ranch in Wyoming where he can shoot whomever he wishes in the face.
